Great excitement as we draw near to the opening of our new centre in Herne.

The official opening will take place on Saturday 9th June 2018 at 1pm

It will go by the name of the Herne Centre and will become a wonderful hub for local people and a special venue for celebrations and conferences. Ideally placed to offer wedding receptions to couples using our churches, it will also be licenced to hold weddings for those that want a civil service.

Following the tendering procedure our parish council is in the process of drawing up a contact, for the management of the new centre to Community Asset Management, a community interest company (CIC). A CIC is a special type of limited company, which exists to benefit the community rather than private shareholders.

The bookings phone number for the new centre is 01227 314093

The old hall has now been demolished to enable the final landscaping and drainage work to go ahead.

Community Provision

Herne Centre will also be used to provide a range of non-hire activities with the aim of providing community benefit and additional income, such as:

School Holiday Club - An already very successful programme run at West Faversham, this will run between 8am and 6pm at £25 per child, which will include, breakfast, a hot meal for lunch, as well a fruit kitchen every day. Children will take part in structured activities as well as having opportunities for free play. This club will also be Ofsted registered.

We are already getting bookings for family celebrations, weddings and interest from local groups.

The first fix has gone in and boarding out is taking place. Screeding of the main hall is due to take place as soon as the scaffolding is down. Cladding on the roundel is going on.

-----

The Tender period for a management company to service the new community centre closed on 31 January. Meetings will take place to agree a 2 year contract.

----

Grants have been appied for from Viridor and Awards for All asking for funding towards the cost of Tables and chairs, kitchen equipment, tableware, a defribrillator and solar PV display unit. We will also need funding for curtains and blinds.

------------

The new building is progressing well and is more or less watertight. The floor screed is going in tomorrow Friday 15 Dec.

The building in on track to be finished in the spring/early summer.

Unfortunately we did not win the M & S Energy funding bid but thank you to the 800+ people that voted for our project.

Our Parish Council Chairman, Ann Blatherwick, has signed the contract for the new Community Centre with BEC Construction.

Building of the new Centre is due to start 30th May 2017.

The current hall car park will be unavailable from 22nd May. Users are advised to use School Lane Public Car Park.

Thank you to everyone who supported our Race Night on Saturday at Herne Community Centre. We raised £691.50.

25% will go to Kent Air Ambulance, the remainder towards the new Community Centre.

All systems go!

The Public Works Loan has been approved and BEC Construction Ltd has been awarded the contract to build the new Centre.

Seven companies tendered for the project, each one was examined by the council's quantity surveyor, Betterage & Milsom, to check that they were compliant and were quoting like for like. Two companies were interviewed post tender before the final choice was made.

Work is due to begin on Monday 3rd April to build the new access ramp and alterations to the kitchen of the old hall, which will be out of action for about a week. They will also make an entrance from the public car park, which will be Herris fenced when completed.

The hall car park will still be usable, until they start the main building work at the end of May.

It is intended that the existing hall will continue to be used during the build, albeit with the different access and smaller kitchen space.

The old hall will be demolished when the new building is usable.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that users and residents may have to bear during the year it is expected to take to complete the project.

We are currently looking at kitchen equipment and other fittings for the new building.

We have been offered some office equipment/desk but have nowhere to store it until the new building is open. Does anyone have storage space in their spare room or garage, so we can take advantage of this offer?

Our parish council would love to hear from anyone who wishes to help raise funds to fit the new building out 01227 742700
