The Fund was set up to support renewable energy projects and technologies across the UK.

Our renewable energy project is to install air source heat pumps, to provide energy efficient underfloor heating, for our new community centre.

The building has been designed to a high standard of excellence and of sustainable construction. This includes 10kw of integrated Solar PV tiles, to provide electricity for the kitchen and hall and power the efficient LED lights of the building, plus an energy free ventilation system will be installed.  Together these innovations will reduce the cost of running the centre and ensure that everyone can be comfortable inside and it will be suitable for people who may not cope well with the cold, like wheelchair users, elderly people and young children.

The new centre will be fully accessible to all, with facilities chosen after consulting our neighbours at Strode Park Foundation for Disabled People.

Malcolm Saunders, Head Teacher of Herne Junior School wrote about our hall "The village has been making do with an existing building, which, quite frankly, is not fit for purpose. It is poorly insulated and full of damp. Many of our parents refuse to send their children to events and activities on offer there, as they state that it is too cold in the winter months and that the essential facilities, eg. size of kitchen and toilets, are woefully inadequate. I also believe that it is not DDA compliant and would not meet the Equalities Act."

Please vote for our project

Hundreds of people have helped us raise most of the money for the building, which is now underway but we still need you to vote to help us get a grant.

So let’s all get together to make Herne Community Centre the most accessible and environmentally friendly building in Kent. Vote for our project to win.

Our Parish Council Chairman, Ann Blatherwick, has signed the contract for the new Community Centre with BEC Construction.

Building of the new Centre is due to start 30th May 2017.

The current hall car park will be unavailable from 22nd May. Users are advised to use School Lane Public Car Park.

Thank you to everyone who supported our Race Night on Saturday at Herne Community Centre. We raised £691.50.

25% will go to Kent Air Ambulance, the remainder towards the new Community Centre.

All systems go!

The Public Works Loan has been approved and BEC Construction Ltd has been awarded the contract to build the new Centre.

Seven companies tendered for the project, each one was examined by the council's quantity surveyor, Betterage & Milsom, to check that they were compliant and were quoting like for like. Two companies were interviewed post tender before the final choice was made.

Work is due to begin on Monday 3rd April to build the new access ramp and alterations to the kitchen of the old hall, which will be out of action for about a week. They will also make an entrance from the public car park, which will be Herris fenced when completed.

The hall car park will still be usable, until they start the main building work at the end of May.

It is intended that the existing hall will continue to be used during the build, albeit with the different access and smaller kitchen space.

The old hall will be demolished when the new building is usable.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that users and residents may have to bear during the year it is expected to take to complete the project.

We are currently looking at kitchen equipment and other fittings for the new building.

We have been offered some office equipment/desk but have nowhere to store it until the new building is open. Does anyone have storage space in their spare room or garage, so we can take advantage of this offer?

Our parish council would love to hear from anyone who wishes to help raise funds to fit the new building out 01227 742700
